Jessica Simpson Daisy Duke Hoopla

While I haven't seen Dukes of Hazzard and have no plans to see it, I have been entertained by the extreme language the critics are using to describe Jessica Simpson's performance as Daisy Duke:
As far as Jessica Simpson goes, it's almost like she's from another planet. She's so bad, so unwatchable. I swear it seems like English is a second language for her.
--Richard Roeper (t.v. show 8/5)

Simpson had never acted in a movie before squeezing into Daisy's short-shorts. As far as I'm concerned, her record is clean. Simpson's body is unimpeachable, but her thespian talent is still undiscovered country.
--Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

I don't know if she should even keep her day job.
--Roger Ebert (t.v. show 8/5)

And who can forget Jessica Simpson? You will, if you’re lucky. She fulfills her contractual obligation admirably, meaning she shakes her ass well and does a commendable job filling out a bikini. Just make sure you exit the theater before her god-awful version of “These Boots Are Made for Walking” starts playing during the end credits, or you may find yourself taking the straw from your drink and puncturing your own eardrums in self defense.
--Pete Vonder Haar, Film Threat

Folks, I can't emphasize this enough... Jessica Simpson was SHIT (I think that is the first time in 2 years of Movie Blogging that I've every typed the word shit) in this movie. And when I say "Shit", I don't mean it in some positive new hip lingo kind of way. I mean she SUCKED in this movie. Her "accent" ... was pathetic, her lines were delivered so stiff that Viagara could learn a few things from her and her lack of any acting talent whatsoever was so glaringly clear that even in scenes where you could tell the director told her to just "stand there and jiggle your titties" she looked more like she belonged in one of those late night 1-976 sex phone commercials than in a major motion picture.
--John Campea, The Movie Blog (and that's just a sample of his rant)

For her part, Simpson is just glad to be playing an "iconish" figure.
