Meta: The Farmhouse Draft Done

A couple of notes before I write up Rain in the Mountains: Day Twenty...

I pushed the last few days to finish my horror/suspense script, The Farmhouse. It's my rebound from Ten Manipulations. As with any first draft, there's the immediate gratification of writing the FADE OUT, followed by the realization of many drafts to come. And since I'm planning, at this point, to produce the movie myself, the road ahead is longer and steeper. One encouraging factor is how much fun I've been having making Rain in the Mountains. Even on rotten days, making a movie beats haltura.

Read more about the delay on my sound editing books Amazon.com order, Jim Jarmusch's Broken Flowers, and the new makingthemovie.info logo...Less exciting news: I've yet to get those sound editing books I ordered from Amazon. Yes, I did choose Super Saver shipping (hey, I'm poor). But I'm a week past their estimated delivery date range and they haven't amended it. I never had this problem in New York, and I'm wondering if it's because Amazon is incorporated in Washington state. (Factoring in state tax, I saved about thirteen cents on shipping anyway.) Amazon allows you to track the package, but all it says is that the USPS has been notified to pick up my package. C'mon Amazon and USPS, get it together. I want my books!

Something else that may not arrive: my review of the new Jim Jarmusch movie, Broken Flowers. I saw it in Seattle when we had the day off (and quite enjoyed it). Judging by my server logs, the movie reviews are of lesser interest compared to more technical content. I'll still do festival reviews and advance reviews, of course. But I may jettison reviews of major releases (which includes Jarmusch movies, as much as he tries to be obscure). Audience feedback on this and anything else at "makingthemovie AT-SYMBOL gmail DOT com" is always welcome.

Making the Movie

Finally, the logo above is the finished version of the one I previewed earlier. Look for it to start appearing everywhere on the site. Thanks to Rebecca Lysen!

UPDATE 8/14/2005: I wrote to Amazon customer service and they agreed that my books have been lost. They are replacing the order and shipping immediately. Excellent service. If it hadn't been, I would've had to find another source of ad revenue. Good fortune all around.
