SI-2K

HD For Indies
has the deets on Silicon Imaging's tiny new HD cam, the SI-2K. It doesn't ship till Jan '07 -- that's a few months before RED. Zak attended the demo at Abel Cine last week and said that they had a long way to go, a big concern being poor low-light performance.

It looks like RED's features are forcing them to up their game; the competition can only be good for all of us.

Here's what Mike sez about the price:
The SI-2K DVR with a hot-swap drive cartridge system and the MINI camera head (all you need to shoot with) is going to be $20K, and a bundle that also includes Prospect 2K is $22K (extra two grand). If you just want the SI-2K MINI (the sensor head), that will be available starting sometime in December and cost $12,500. Combine that with a sufficiently powerful laptop or desktop unit and you can record in the field/studio with the tiny sensor package and a lens, tethered to the computer by a simple, cheap gigabit ethernet cable.
