Cinema Audio Society Noms

2007 Cinema Audio Society Nominees:
Cinema Audio Society unveils Nominations for
Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing

Motion Pictures
The Bourne Ultimatum
Into the Wild
No Country for Old Men
300
Transformers
As longtime readers know, I'm always trying to improve my knowledge of sound mixing.

No Country was a masterful piece of sound design, what with the uses of silence, lots of sound-effects driven sequences. (You'll notice, if you are paying attention, the entire movie barely has any music cues.)

Transformers and 300 are no brainers in terms of mixing because they have the big action scenes with literally hundreds of tracks that had to be mixed.

The weakest entries here, and I'm speaking only from a 'likelihood to win an Academy Award' perspective, are The Bourne Ultimatum and Into the Wild. I'm sure the mixing on both was top notch, mostly because I can't remember a single moment where I was dwelling on the audio. Of course, that kind of craftsmanship is really only appreciated by those in the know, not the general Academy voter.
