The 14 Worst Writers in Hollywood

I'll tell you why I like this MovieFill article on terrible screenwriters. It is one of the few pieces of pop journalism out there that acknowledges the influence of screenwriters.

Do I think that all of the writers on this list get a fair shake? No. I have it on pretty good authority that Kurtzman and Orci knew the script for Transformers 2 was shit but Michael Bay had the final say. That's how it works in movies -- meddling producers, directors, actors and editors all get their shot at messing up a movie. On the other hand, when a writer has their name on terrible movie after terrible movie -- well, there's nowhere to hide. Bad screenwriting will stand out like a turd in the snow, no matter how much the producers, directors, actors and editors try to hide it.

Respect good screenwriting and acknowledge the bad.

I just posted a comment on the article's site. It's a great article, with one exception: Tommy Wiseau is, number one, not in the same league as any of the other writers you discuss here, and number two, that is seriously like the worlds tiniest movie and his only movie, so it might not be fair to pick on the guy. Also, that trailer has filled my life with more laughter over the years than any other, so I'd feel bad criticizing it.
